The Rosetta Stone

"The Rosetta Stone" is the new etwinning partnership of Pentapolis Senior Highschool undertaken in collaboration with King Edward VI College (UK).

It has been designed by the BBC Worldclass to work in conjuction with the History of the World in 100 Objects Series of the British Museum.

Students will learn more about what is involved in becoming active citizens, they will discuss the topic of the repatriation of the Rosetta Stone and other famous exhibits of the British Museum (such as the Parthenon Sculptures) as well as reflecting on what objects best represent their own culture. Furthermore their language and ICT skills will be enhanced and a team spirit will hopefully be created and developed.

Repatriation of the Parthenon Sculptures

"For almost 30 years, the Government of Greece has been lobbying the British Government for the return of the collection, and the opening of the Acropolis Museum, meant to be the ark of Greek culture, has proven to be a flashpoint for the long-running discussion. The issues around the restitution of artwork to the countries of their origin remains a contentious and hotly-contested one, both for the current owners and the nations of their creation."

The Parthenon History

This is a video financed by the Greek Ministry of Culture to show the history of Parthenon throughout the centuries. Pay particular attention to the part referring to the 'extraction' of the sculptures by Lord Elgin.
