First Day Activities

This is an ice breaking activity easily adaptable to all ages
and levels of students. Ideal for introduction in a newly formed
group of students.

1) prepare a list of popular song titles
2)buy a pack of multi-coloured post-it notes (in the shape of a puzzle)
3)Post the list on the board (after reading aloud some of these titles & asking them the names of the artists to raise awareness)
4)Tell them to pick a song title that best represents their personality and a post-it note
of their favourite colour. They have to explain why they choose it.
5)Ask them to post the stickers on the board in the shape of a puzzle
6)The teacher then takes each sticker and reads the title aloud. The sts try to guess
who wrote it.
7)The child who wrote it reveals and presents himself to his classmates.
8)At the final stage the teacher can ask the sts what the puzzle shows/represents & emphasize that the class members  are all part of the same team.

It's been fun!ENjoy!!

Interview with Kevan Cummins about Learnenglish British Council sites

Kevin Cummins is the person in charge of Learnenglish British Council sites

Learnenglish series include three parts targeting learners according to their age group:

  • For Teens, the site was launched last year, keeping in mind what teens might do in the classroom but it also contains videos, games etc as well as exam preparation stuff and practice materials http://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/

New challenges relate to the new technological era and the transition
·       from Desktop to tablets. Children will no longer access the internet with the company of a parent, as was the case until now, rather they will be on their own. So learning has to become more intuitive. Learnenglish websites have therefore shifted their interest towards Mobile learning.
Learnenglish sites are also available in many languages, such as
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Chinese
  • Thai
  • Japanese
  • Russian
  • Arabic·
